Following the addition of a striking contemporary extension to a substantial Victorian house in Kew the owners wanted a garden to complement both new and old. They had a strong appreciation of the horticultural history of their location and wanted the garden to reflect this sense of place.
The contemporary design has strong clean lines combined with the use of natural materials and soft planting. Western Red Cedar is used for the decking, bespoke herb planter and as contemporary trellis for the existing old brick walls. Raised planters constructed from Reclaimed London Stock bricks add height whilst the sawn black limestone capping and paving creates textural contrast.
The existing magnolia grandiflora is retained to provide evergreen structure and combined with a new golden leaved Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Frisia ‘.
